Bengaluru-Goa Vande Bharat Express to run at speeds as slow as mail trains

The upcoming Vande Bharat Express to be launched between Bengaluru and Goa could become one of India's slowest trains. According to a report by The Economic Times, the average speed of this train is likely to be only 53-54 kmph, which is equivalent to the speed of ordinary mail and express trains.

This new service will cover a total distance of 670 km from Bengaluru to Madgaon. It will take approximately 12 to 13 hours to complete this journey. Despite being a modern train like Vande Bharat, its average speed will be lower than many existing rail services.

Vande Bharat trains have the capability to run at an approved speed of 160 kmph, but this speed will not be achievable on the Bengaluru-Goa route. According to the report, due to the current condition of the track or rails, the maximum speed for commercial runs has been limited to 130 kmph.

Currently, Vande Bharat services operating on other routes in the country run at much higher average speeds. The average speed of other services is often more than 65 kmph, compared to which the speed of the Bengaluru-Goa route is significantly lower.

To increase the travel speed on this railway route, continuous improvement in the condition of the track is extremely essential. Until improvements are made in the quality of the tracks, the potential to increase the speed of this train cannot be fully utilised.

Thus, the Vande Bharat Express, known for modern technology and higher speeds, will not be able to run according to its capacity on this specific route, and passengers will have to take as much time as ordinary trains. Track limitations have forced this high-speed train to run at slow speeds.
