Frequent visits to local RTA offices will no longer be necessary for transferring vehicle ownership, obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for bringing a vehicle from another state, and updating e-KYC details. The Transport Department announced on Saturday that all these services can now be accessed online through the Vahan Citizen Service Portal. Aadhaar-based One Time Password (OTP) authentication will be used to avail of these services.
According to a report by The Hindu, for those wishing to transfer vehicle ownership, the process requires the seller to first log in to the portal. Subsequently, vehicle details must be verified using the last five characters of the chassis or engine number, and the dates of insurance or pollution certificates must be confirmed. After completing this process, the seller must enter the buyer's details. Once all these steps are completed, an application number will be generated and sent to the buyer's mobile number.
The buyer can use this application number to complete the subsequent stages. This process includes Aadhaar OTP authentication, entering the current address, and checking the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) vehicle report to ensure that no criminal record is associated with the vehicle. After paying the prescribed fee, both the buyer and seller must complete the e-signing process via Aadhaar OTP. Following final submission, the transaction will be automatically approved, and the registration certificate will then be sent by the RTO.
Vehicle owners who wish to take their vehicles to another state, specifically Telangana, or sell them there, can now apply for an NOC online. The applicant must state the reason for obtaining the certificate. Subsequently, they must select the destination state and the relevant RTO to generate the NCRB report. Uploading Form 28 and the NCRB report on the portal is mandatory before final submission. The application process will then be forwarded to the concerned RTO office.
Those wishing to update e-KYC details can do so using their Aadhaar number or virtual Aadhaar ID. After verifying the vehicle details, authentication must be done via the OTP sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. At this stage, they can review and submit their e-KYC details. After uploading a copy of the Aadhaar card and the original RC, the application will be sent to the relevant RTO office for approval.
The Transport Department has specifically advised vehicle owners to carefully verify all details before submitting the application.
