New Delhi :: The ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has reached over 35 crore people so far under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) to reduce the demand for narcotic substances.
In this campaign, more than 13.94 crore youth and 10.86 crore women are involved, while more than 32 lakh educational institutions have also joined through outreach activities.
Addressing the third national conference of the heads of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) organized in New Delhi in September, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that by 31 December 2029, the country will collectively succeed in eradicating the drug trade from India at its roots. He emphasized mutual coordination, clear targets, accountability, and the destruction of drug networks, while also highlighting the importance of protecting youth from drugs under the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ was launched on 15 August 2020. Initially, it focused on 272 sensitive districts and has now expanded across the entire country. This campaign places special focus on youth, women, and communities, as their role is crucial in preventing drug consumption and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
A senior official of the Ministry stated that these efforts demonstrate the importance of continuous public participation to increase awareness and encourage collective responsibility for building a drug-free society. Educational institutions, youth clubs, women's groups, and local communities serve as vital platforms to provide information regarding the risks of drugs and to encourage timely action.
The National Drug De-addiction Helpline 14446 is a medium for individuals and families seeking information and assistance regarding drug consumption-related issues. More details and awareness resources can be obtained from https://nmba.dosje.gov.in/.
