Gandhinagar, Oct 21 - Police Commemoration Day was celebrated at the National Defence University to honour the memory of police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation's unity, integrity, peace, and the safety of citizens. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat paid tribute to the martyrs and bowed to the dedication of their family members.
The Governor stated that the entire nation will always remain indebted to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives without regard for their own safety to maintain peace and law and order in the country. He expressed sympathy and respect towards the family members who dedicated their children to national service and instilled in them the values of devotion to duty.
A Martyr Memorial Wall was inaugurated at the university campus to preserve the memory of the martyrs and to inspire patriotism in the coming generations. A special Digital Dashboard to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Gujarat Police and a Firing Simulator Lab were also launched. Referring to the National Police Memorial located in Delhi, the Governor said that such memorials become centers of inspiration for patriotism and dedication for the youth.
The Governor mentioned that during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had taken the initiative to establish institutions such as the country's first Children's Research University, Teachers University, Kamdhenu University, Gujarat National Law University, and the National Defence University. According to him, these institutions will prove to be strong foundational bricks in the mission to make India a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by the year 2047.
He added that the National Defence University is providing modern security, cybercrime, and contemporary training to personnel from police and paramilitary forces coming from various regions of the country. He stated that while India believes in non-violence, peace, tolerance, and brotherhood, it is also necessary to be capable of protecting peace and truth. Peace is not maintained through cowardice and weakness; being strong for self-defence and national defence against evil elements is the true ornament of bravery. He called upon the younger generation and trainees to remain ready to serve the motherland with the spirit of ‘Mata Bhumih: Putro Aham Prithvyaah’.
A Physical Adventure Wall was inaugurated by the Governor, and certificates were presented to personnel who passed the examination as Jail Assistants.
Shri Vimal Patel, Vice-Chancellor of the National Defence University, paid tribute to the martyred police personnel. He lauded the contribution of police forces and security agencies in maintaining internal security and law and order. Keeping the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ in mind, he emphasised the need for institutions to equip themselves with Artificial Intelligence and digital evidence.
