The Bihar government has removed Bhanu Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khagaria district, from his post. The IPS officer, who has been in the spotlight due to a dispute with his wife and the serious allegations levelled against him, has now been attached to the Police Headquarters in Patna with immediate effect. The order for this transfer was issued by the Home Department on Wednesday.
Under this administrative reshuffle, Shailendra Singh, the SP of Shivhar, has been assigned the responsibility of the new SP of Khagaria. Shailendra Singh is also an IPS officer of the 2021 batch. Additionally, Mohammad Mohibulla Ansari, who was serving as the City SP of Muzaffarpur, has been appointed as the new SP of Shivhar.
The entire matter began with complaints filed by Bhanu Pratap Singh's wife, Pooja Singh. Pooja Singh lodged a complaint at the Women Police Station and also presented her grievances before the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state and the State Women's Commission. She has made serious allegations of harassment against her husband. Pooja Singh stated that her husband does not even allow her to speak to their 6-year-old daughter, which has become the most sensitive aspect of this dispute.
To fulfill her demands and seek justice, Pooja Singh held a protest outside the Chief Minister's residence in Patna. Furthermore, she visited the Patna Police Headquarters to submit her formal objection. According to a report by Amar Ujala, she also staged a protest in front of the Khagaria SP's residence.
Speaking on the legal proceedings in this matter, Anu Kumari, Sub-Divisional Police Officer-1 of the Secretariat, stated, citing a PTI report, that a complaint has been received from Pooja Singh and an investigation is currently underway. However, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in this matter so far.
On the other hand, taking note of the seriousness of the matter, the Bihar State Women's Commission has issued a summons to IPS Bhanu Pratap Singh so that he may respond to his wife's allegations. The Women's Commission has ordered its officers to investigate the complaint and submit a report within three days.
In a conversation with news agencies, Pooja Singh spoke in detail about her past married life and the current situation. She stated that she and Bhanu Pratap Singh were married in 2016. At that time, Bhanu Pratap Singh had no job and was preparing for the Civil Services examination. Pooja Singh had decided to spend her life with him during those difficult times. Subsequently, Bhanu Pratap Singh was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Expressing her grief, Pooja Singh said that the relationship which began with a commitment to spend life together has now drifted so far apart that she had to file a police complaint against her husband and in-laws. She further added that she does not want to break this relationship but wants to mend it.
She clarified that she does not want a divorce. Pooja Singh told reporters, "I do not want a divorce. It is my wish to make a new beginning with my husband and daughter. If they are willing to understand my words, I am even ready to withdraw the police complaint." Her main demand is that their daughter receives the love and support of both parents.
Other officers' names have also emerged in this transfer process besides Bhanu Pratap Singh. According to NDTV India, the Bihar government has issued transfer orders for a total of five IPS officers. According to an Amar Ujala report, Aparajita, an IPS officer of the 2020 batch, has been made an Assistant to the Governor. Aparajita was previously the Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-16 and was holding the additional charge of Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) of Patna.
Kumari Mamta Kalyani's name is also in this list, who has been promoted to IPS. She is currently the Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-10 and has been given the additional charge of Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-16. Additionally, Raj Kishore Singh, an officer of the Bihar Police Service, has been removed from the responsibility of Patna City Sub-Divisional Police Officer-1 and made the Town Police Superintendent of Saran Chhapra.
Bhanu Pratap Singh was not available to comment on this entire controversy. Currently, he has been summoned to the headquarters by the government, and the investigation into the allegations of harassment made by his wife is ongoing.
Bhanu Pratap Singh is an IPS officer of the 2021 batch, who was serving as the Superintendent of Police in Bihar's Khagaria district.
