A major step is being taken towards bringing a revolution in the animal husbandry sector after agriculture in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to give a big gift to cattle rearers at Bhildi in Banaskantha. During this visit, three development works worth ₹407.56 crore will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid by the Prime Minister. Among these projects, the state-of-the-art animal breeding center built on 127 acres of land at a cost of ₹324.77 crore is expected to prove a boon for cattle rearers.
Prime Minister Modi shared a special post on the social media platform 'X' on the eve of his Gujarat visit to explain the importance of this historic moment. He stated that a new revolution will be seen in the animal husbandry sector in Banaskantha and extended an open invitation to everyone to come to Banaskantha to witness this moment. Built over a vast area of 127 acres, this 'Bovine Breeding and Research Center' will prove to be a milestone for the animal husbandry and dairy industry. The main objective of this center is to increase milk production per animal and place special emphasis on breeding high-quality cattle.
With the start of this research center, the conservation and breeding of proud indigenous cattle breeds like Kankrej will get a major boost. With the help of modern science and research, the breed of animals will be improved, which can benefit cattle rearers in the long run. Prime Minister Modi further stated in his post that this innovative initiative will help improve the economic condition of cattle rearers not only in Banaskantha or Gujarat but across the entire country and will be a big help in doubling their income. This will benefit lakhs of farmers and Maldharis associated with animal husbandry.
Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy, who is associated with this entire project, told TV9 that this was Prime Minister Modi's vision. He recalled that after an event held in the presence of the Vice President of Brazil 3 years ago, he thought that if Brazil could bring such a revolution, why not India? After that, the exercise of taking the lab to the land was started.
In-Vitro Fertilization, i.e., IVF method, will be used in this center. The biggest advantage of this method is that the population of cows with excellent genetic quality can be increased rapidly. Generally, one calf is obtained from a cow in a year, but through IVF technology, there is a possibility of obtaining about 20 calves in a year from an excellent cow under the right conditions. In this lab, using OPU-IVF and embryo transfer, i.e., test tube, 10 to 20 embryos will be extracted from the best cows in a year, processed in the lab, and placed in other cows. The offspring born through this process will yield more milk.
