India leading in era of World AI and Gene-based Precision Medicine: Dr. Jitendra Singh

New Delhi :: The world is entering an era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) directed and gene-based precision medicine, and India is emerging as a leading provider of advanced healthcare solutions, said Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.

He made these remarks while addressing the 42nd Convocation Ceremony of the Chennai-based Shri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRICHER) as the chief guest.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, a former Professor of Medicine and Diabetes, stated that the future of medicine will depend on the integration of technological progress and precise clinical decision-making, as well as preventing lifestyle-related diseases among the youth. In the presence of Chancellor V. R. Venkatachalam and Pro-Chancellor R. V. Singh Rutwari, he congratulated the degree holders and gold medal winners and wished for the speedy recovery of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Uma, who was absent due to ill health.

Drawing from four decades of medical experience, the Minister noted that previously the focus was on infectious diseases, but now the burden of lifestyle-related illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease has increased. Developing diabetes at the age of 30 leads to consequences for decades, making the prevention of such diseases among youth extremely necessary for the goal of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'.

He added that India has made significant progress in indigenous DNA vaccines against COVID-19, dengue and malaria vaccine research, gene therapy for hemophilia, nephthromycin for pneumonia, and nuclear medicine. He invited SRICHER to partner with national research in the fields of genomics, biomanufacturing, and nuclear medicine.
