New Delhi :: Before the onset of winter, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented strict dust control measures to intensify air pollution control on national highways and expressways in Delhi-NCR. Under this, approximately 60 water sprinklers and tankers, 14 anti-smog guns, 23 mechanical road sweeping machines, two tractor-mounted broomers, and more than 900 laborers have been deployed. Additionally, 13 mechanical road sweeping machines are being operated across 157 km of national highway stretches in the Delhi-NCR region.
Shri Alok Dipankar, Technical Member of NHAI, reviewed the pollution control measures. He directed field teams to ensure the full deployment of all equipment, laborers, and water sprinkling, regular operation of anti-smog guns, and daily mechanical sweeping. He emphasized strict adherence to the standards prescribed by the Air Quality Management Commission, which include covering construction materials, maintaining dust-free road surfaces, and taking strict measures according to the Graded Response Action Plan. Officials have been ordered to monitor daily activities and submit progress reports with geo-tagged photographs.
As part of environmental initiatives, NHAI has planted approximately 9.80 lakh saplings against a target of 9.52 lakh in the National Capital Region during the financial year 2025-26, with a survival rate of more than 90 percent. Furthermore, approximately 13.58 lakh tonnes of inert waste from Delhi's landfill sites has been used in the construction of embankments for the UER-II and DND-Sohna corridors.
In this review meeting, major traffic regulation projects including Urban Extension Road-II, Dwarka Expressway, DND-Sohna Expressway, and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway were also reviewed. These projects will help in reducing vehicle emissions and traffic jams. Along with this, emphasis was placed on the speedy disposal of complaints received on the Green Delhi App and social media.
